Global Roots, Canadian Success Award
The storytelling award: the immigrant journey behind the business built in Canada.
Global Roots, Canadian Success Award
An extraordinary immigrant journey and the business built in Canada as a result of it. This is the signature storytelling award, chosen not primarily on business metrics but on the power and authenticity of the founder's journey from newcomer to established entrepreneur.
Who should be nominated
Any nominee, from any category, whose personal immigration and entrepreneurial journey is exceptionally compelling. It may be self nominated with a journey narrative, or flagged by category judges as a standout story worth separate consideration.
How this category is scored.
Each judge scores every criterion from 1 to 10, and the weights below turn those into a single averaged score. Nothing is scored that is not on this table.
| Criterion | Weight | What judges are assessing |
|---|---|---|
| Journey & Adversity Overcome | 35% | The distance travelled, the barriers faced as a newcomer such as credential recognition, funding access, language and networks, and how they were overcome. |
| Authenticity of Story | 20% | How genuinely and specifically the narrative reflects the founder's lived experience. |
| Business Outcome | 20% | What she has ultimately built. The judges should still see a real, functioning business, not just a compelling story. |
| Cultural Bridge Building | 15% | Ways the business or founder connects Canadian markets with cultural heritage, community, or international perspective. |
| Inspirational Value | 10% | The story's potential to resonate with and inspire other newcomers considering entrepreneurship. |
